MS Exchange 2010 Install "Cannot access registry" error
I am attempting to install a fresh, new MS exchange 2010 instance on a MS Server 2008 R2 which is a GoDaddy Virtual Dedicated Server. It is currently failing on the pre-req check. This is the pre-req error I am getting: There was a problem accessing the registry on this computer. This may happen if the Remote Registry service is not running. It may also indicate a network problem or that the TCP/IP Netbios Helper service is not running. I have already contacted GoDaddy and they told me I have full access to do whatever I need and that MS Exchange will work fine on one of their virtual dedicated servers. I am not sure if I believe them or not, but regardless, this is my first Exchange install and I am not sure if it is just me or if there is something else. Is there a series of steps that I can perform to debug this error. I already resolved all the other issues - this is the last one and I cannot figure it out. I performed the following steps in an attempt to debug the issue. 1. I disabled the firewall on everything and restarted the "Readiness Checks" - same error 2. I disabled IPv6 by unchecking the checkbox "Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)" under "Local Area Connection Properties" and restarted the "Readiness Checks" - same error 3. The "TCP/IP netbios helper" service is enabled and set to "Automatic" 4. Under "Advanced sharing settings" and then under "Home or Work" (which I assume is the "PRIVATE" network) - I disabled the "File and printer sharing" by clicking the radio button for "Turn off file and printer sharing" and then clicked "Save changes". Then went back in and enabled it by clicking the radio button for "Turn on file and printer sharing" and then clicked "Save changes" and restarted the "Readiness Checks" - same error 5. Under "Advanced sharing settings" and then under "Domain" - "Network Discovery", "File and printer sharing", and "Public folder sharing" are all currently on. The "Computer Browser" service is enabled and set to "Automatic" This is so frustrating because I am so close. BTW - I just recognized that I am getting this error for more than just the "Hub Transport Role Prerequisites" - I am getting it for the "Client Access Role Prerequisites" and the "Mailbox Role Prerequisites". Does that change anything? PLEASE HELP!!

Thank you for your reply. My account has admin rights on the server. I also attempted to perform the install by clicking "Run as Administrator" and I got the same result. Any other suggestions? There has to be a way to determine what the issue is. This error is so vague - Would there be more information somewhere that I could use to determine what the real issue is?

Yes. I have not only seen that post, but I have verified that all of the various solutions proposed did not work for me.
